Sheriff Antonio D. Hash is honored to serve the City of Roanoke in his first term as your elected Sheriff, following thirteen years of dedicated service as a Deputy Sheriff. Throughout his career, Sheriff Hash has remained committed to the values that guide his leadership today. As Sheriff, he has instilled in every member of the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office the importance of embracing the five pillars of leadership: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Encourage the Heart, Enable Others to Act, and Build on the Process. These pillars shape both his approach to leadership and the culture of the agency he leads.

Sheriff Antonio D. Hash is a proud lifelong resident of Roanoke. Born and raised in Roanoke City, he attended Roanoke City Public Schools and has deep roots in the community. He and his extended family continue to call Roanoke home, demonstrating a strong personal commitment to the city he serves.

Professional Career
Sheriff Antonio D. Hash brings extensive professional experience and a strong commitment to service to his role as Sheriff of Roanoke. Throughout his career, he has earned numerous certifications and played a vital role on the accreditation team that helped the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office achieve certification as a recognized law enforcement agency. Sheriff Hash’s dedication to professional development and community service has been a guiding force throughout his career.

Before being elected Sheriff, Sheriff Hash was actively involved in giving back to the Roanoke community, working to strengthen relationships and foster unity. In recognition of his selfless community contributions, he was awarded the prestigious Key to the City by Mayor Sherman Lea Sr. in 2019.

Sheriff Hash’s leadership experience extends beyond law enforcement. As a former CEO of a not-for-profit organization, he brings a unique skill set to the Sheriff’s Office, allowing him to effectively manage the agency. He is committed to lifelong learning, having completed the National Sheriffs’ Institute Jail Administration Course (2022) and the National Sheriffs' Institute Leadership Development Course (2023). Sheriff Hash continues to expand his expertise through ongoing training, conferences, and mentorship in law enforcement, leadership, and community engagement.

A key focus for Sheriff Hash is addressing mental health challenges, both for residents and deputies. His creation of R(IGNITE), a program for residents within the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center, and the implementation of the Peer Support Team for sworn and non-sworn employees highlight his commitment to this issue. Sheriff Hash is dedicated to strengthening partnerships between the Sheriff’s Department and community programs, ensuring the department serves the public with integrity, respect, and care.
